Nuclear Induction

Nuclear Induction is mandatory for everyone entering the UK nuclear sector. No exceptions,
no exemptions, no matter the role or seniority. This course fulfils that requirement and goes
much further. Most inductions give you the rules. This one gives you the industry, the culture
and the thinking behind it all so you move from new-to-nuclear to nuclear-ready.

Industry Requirement

The Mandatory First Step for Every Nuclear Entrant

A nuclear induction is a standard requirement for anyone entering the UK nuclear sector. It is expected by employers, required by site operators and supports the duty holder obligations that govern competence and safety compliance under UK nuclear regulation. Whether you are a contractor, a new employee, a graduate or a supply chain professional preparing to work on a nuclear project, completing a recognised nuclear induction is the first step. Without it, site access and effective integration into a nuclear environment are not possible.

This course is the recognised way to meet that requirement. It is delivered by SQEP professionals (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel) with real industry experience, produces a certificate of completion that employers and site operators accept as evidence of nuclear induction training, and gives every participant the knowledge and confidence to operate effectively in a nuclear environment from day one.

Nuclear Induction is also the first building block of SQEP evidence. It sits at the foundation of the Training and Qualifications pillar of the SQEP framework, preceding all other structured programmes. For employers, this maps directly to your IRR17 and ONR compliance obligations. For individuals making the move into nuclear, find out more about what SQEP means for career transitioners.

Why This Course Matters

Accelerate your journey to nuclear readiness

Every nuclear employer provides site and company inductions, but professionals new to the sector often need months to fully understand how nuclear environments operate; from safety culture and stakeholder structures to approval processes and ways of working. This course bridges that gap and acts like an induction accelerator.

Delivered by SQEP professionals

Fully tutor-led by Suitably Qualified and Experienced (SQEP) nuclear professionals with real industry experience. You are learning from people who have worked in the sector, not just studied it.

Complete industry overview

From the regulatory framework and safety culture to project management fundamentals, supply chain operations and nuclear professionalism. Everything a new entrant needs to understand how the industry thinks and operates.

Built for employers

A programme ideal for onboarding new starters, graduates and supply chain staff into nuclear environments. Bespoke in-house delivery is available for organisations looking to bring multiple cohorts through together.

Rapid nuclearisation

Participants leave with a working knowledge of the industry, an understanding of key stakeholders, an awareness of nuclear professionalism, and a grounding in safety cases, approval routes and information management that can otherwise take months of experience to develop.

Certificate of completion

All participants receive a certificate that can be used to evidence nuclear induction training to employers and site operators.A straightforward way to demonstrate readiness before arriving on site.

Essential for Nuclear Site Readiness

For many roles in the UK nuclear sector, a nuclear induction course is a standard
requirement before starting work in the sector. While not defined as a single statutory
certificate, it supports employer duties around safety, competence and site-specific
compliance, and is commonly required as part of onboarding for personnel entering
regulated nuclear environments. Whether you are a contractor, site visitor or new employee,
completing a recognised nuclear induction is often the first step toward gaining the access
and confidence to operate effectively in a nuclear site.

The Nuclear Induction programme has been mapped against ANIA, and the competency,
nuclear safety culture and quality culture principles of ISO 19443:2018, providing the
baseline knowledge and behaviours expected of personnel entering the UK nuclear energy
supply chain.

Who Is This For?

Anyone entering or working within the UK nuclear industry. That means everyone, regardless of role, background or seniority. In practice, this includes:

  • professionals transitioning into nuclear from sectors such as rail, oil and gas, defence or construction
  • graduates and early-career individuals entering nuclear roles for the first time
  • contractors and supply chain staff preparing to work on nuclear projects
  • new employees being onboarded by nuclear employers
  • site visitors and specialists entering regulated nuclear environments

If you are new to nuclear, this course shortens the time it takes to become productive, confident and aligned with industry expectations.

What You'll Gain

Time to Productivity

We reduce the additional time for a ‘new-to-nuclear’ candidate to be ‘nuclear ready’ from “months” to “weeks”

Professionals with prior nuclear experience can integrate into new roles quickly. Those new to the sector often cannot, not due to lack of ability, but lack of context.

This course removes that barrier. It enables individuals to add value earlier, integrate faster into project teams, reduce onboarding friction for employers and avoid common early-stage mistakes.

In short, it helps you think, communicate and operate like a nuclear professional compressing 3-6 months of nuclear acclimatisation into a few weeks.

Your questions answered

Answers to frequently asked questions

In practice, anyone entering the UK nuclear sector is expected to complete a nuclear induction before working on site. While there is no single statutory certificate with that name, employer and licensee duties under UK nuclear regulation, including site licence conditions and competence obligations overseen by the ONR, mean that induction for new entrants is a consistent industry expectation. Most employers and site operators require it. Completing a recognised programme from a SQEP-credentialed provider is the credible way to meet that expectation and evidence it in a competence file.
