The Nuclear Skills Strategy Group has confirmed the sector must recruit and train tens of thousands of professionals to support new build, operations and decommissioning programmes across the country.

The Nuclear Skills Strategy Group (NSSG) has confirmed that the UK nuclear sector needs to recruit and train approximately 40,000 skilled workers by 2030 to meet the demands of new build programmes, ongoing operations, and decommissioning activities.

This figure reflects a significant acceleration in workforce requirements driven by the government’s commitment to nuclear energy as part of the UK’s net-zero strategy and energy security plans.

Key areas of demand include project management, engineering, construction, and specialist technical roles across sites in the North West, Somerset, Suffolk, and beyond.

Skills Bootcamps such as those delivered by 360 Nuclear Skills Training are a key part of the government’s response, providing fast-track, funded pathways into employment for career changers and those already working in adjacent sectors.

Industry leaders have emphasised that collaboration between training providers, employers, and government is essential to closing the gap and ensuring the nuclear workforce is ready to deliver on the UK’s ambitious programme.
