360 Nuclear Skills Training Achieved the National matrix Standard

360 Nuclear Skills Training has been assessed as meeting the matrix Standard, the national quality mark for information, advice and guidance (IAG) services, delivered by The Growth Company on behalf of the Department for Education. The assessment judged the Standard fully met.

Why the UK Nuclear Workforce Needs More People

UK nuclear jobs passed 100,000 for the first time in 2026, reaching 102,606, up 67% in five years from 61,371 in 2021. In the most recent detailed workforce breakdown available (Cogent Skills, 2024), women made up 22% of the sector and around 27% of the workforce was aged over 50.

360 Nuclear Skills Training own Skills Bootcamp figures already reflect the shift the sector needs: 26% of learners are women, close to that measure, and 31% are aged over 50, slightly ahead of the national figure, proof that a move into nuclear or advanced manufacturing is realistic at any career stage, not just at entry level.

What matrix Standard Accreditation Confirms

The matrix Standard is an independent benchmark of how well an organisation guides people toward informed decisions about learning and careers. Assessors interviewed staff, learners and employer partners and reviewed the full learner journey, from enquiry through to workplace progression.

The report found that guidance is delivered by trainers and skills coaches with direct occupational experience in nuclear, project management and advanced manufacturing, rather than sitting separately from technical delivery, so advice reflects current sector practice rather than generic careers guidance.

What This Means for Employers and SQEP Compliance

For employers responsible for workforce development, SQEP compliance and competence management, matrix accreditation gives independent confirmation that the guidance their staff receive has met a recognised national standard for quality and impartiality. That covers courses including the one-day Nuclear Induction Course, the Advanced Manufacturing Skills Bootcamp, which builds skills in 3D printing, CAD, robotics and Industry 4.0 technologies increasingly used across nuclear supply chain projects, and the Nuclear Projects Fundamentals (PFQ) Level 4 Skills Bootcamp.

The assessment specifically noted the partnership with Nuvia Nuclear, which provides mentoring to learners both in and out of employment, forwards CVs to potential employers and connects training directly to progression into the nuclear industry. For an employer weighing up where to invest in workforce readiness against a widening skills gap, that means the guidance given is tied to real routes into the sector, not a generic add-on.

Roger Chapman, Head of the matrix Service for The Growth Company, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for 360 Nuclear Skills Training and I would like to congratulate the team on their success. We believe that at the heart of high-quality advice and support services are strong leadership, excellent service and a focus on continuous improvement, all underpinned by effective use of the resources available. The matrix Standard is designed to benchmark organisations against best practice in these areas. With their accreditation success, 360 Nuclear Skills Training is working to provide the best possible support to their clients.”

That external endorsement is echoed internally too. For 360 Nuclear Skills Training’s own leadership, the accreditation is less a finishing line than confirmation that the support model they have built, from first enquiry through to career progression, is working as intended.

Paul Bullock FNucI MIET, Managing Director, 360 Nuclear Skills Training “The UK’s nuclear ambitions will ultimately be delivered by people, and building workforce capability means doing more than simply providing training. We need to help people understand the sector, develop the right knowledge, skills and behaviours, and make informed decisions about how they can build and progress their careers within nuclear. For us, that means combining high-quality training with guidance grounded in real nuclear-sector experience, employer need and genuine routes into the industry. Whether someone is entering nuclear for the first time, switching from an adjacent sector or developing within an existing role, our aim is to help them become both work-ready and nuclear-ready. Achieving the matrix Standard provides independent recognition that this support is embedded throughout our learner journey. It is a significant achievement for the 360 Nuclear team and another important part of our commitment to building the workforce capability the UK nuclear sector needs to deliver safely, securely and at pace.”

Starting or Progressing a Career in the Nuclear Sector

For individuals, the assessment confirmed that support is personalised from first enquiry onward, with one to one guidance, individual learning plans and flexibility built around personal circumstances. Trainers bring direct nuclear and project management experience, and learners described training as giving them “real experiences from the sector” and more than they had expected going in.

Support continues beyond course completion, through mini Bootcamps and ongoing professional communities, helping sustain the connections and knowledge built during training.
